“It’s okay, Master,” whispered Ahsoka, hugging Obi-Wan tighter.
When Bail had sent her to Tatooine with Leia, he hadn’t said a word of who they were meant to find—only that there was an old friend of his called ‘Ben’, a veteran of the clone wars, and that he could help them in the coming war against the Empire.
Bail might also have hinted that ‘Ben’ wasn’t simply a contact, and in fact Alliance owed a significant portion of its structure and operations to him. Then, she’d thought perhaps he’d meant simply to convey that ‘Fulcrum’ was expected to defer to this mystery person.
Bail had made no mention of a Jedi. A survivor tucked away into this gods-forsaken corner of the galaxy, aged far beyond his time—her Jedi, her Master’s Master. The Father of the Rebellion, Bail had heavily implied, and a very dear friend.
How strange, and how right, that this should be the person who built the very foundations of the Alliance. How right that he should be the key to bringing the Empire to its knees, no matter how aged or fragile he seemed now.
“You got tall,” her Grandmaster said softly, “why did you all get so tall?”
Ahsoka wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry at that, and buried her face in his shoulder.
